I am Angela “Angie” Berrett (she/they) of Angie Berrett Movement. For many years I endured child sexual abuse that left me feeling broken & unlovable. I grew up to be a Registered Nurse caring for others, but could never escape the pain inside of me.
In 2017 everything in my life hit rock bottom, & something needed to change. I started on a journey to heal the “black hole" of pain I felt inside of me, left behind from years of child abuse. Play, movement & imagination provided opportunities for me to work through the emotional & physical healing I needed to connect to my inner resilience. The more I physically moved, the more my emotional pain healed.
Now as an Intuitive Movement Coach, Registered Nurse, Advanced Trauma Informed Yoga Instructor & Stand Up Paddleboard Yoga Instructor, I help others struggling with stress, anxiety, depression & trauma use play, movement & imagination to bring more joy & peace to their lives.
I graduated as a RN with a BSN in Nursing from the University of Utah in 2003. In 2018 I become a 200-hour registered yoga teacher (RYT) through YogaWorks in Columbia, MD. I quickly became a certified stand up paddleboard (SUP) yoga instructor (SUPY) through Longwave Yoga in Wilmington, NC. In 2021, I completed 150 hours of training to become Advanced Certified in Trauma Informed Yoga & Somatics through Collective Resilience.
I started Angie Berrett Movement to encourage others to use playful movements &their creativity to heal. Everything I do with Angie Berrett Movement is focused on that goal.
Angie Berrett Movement's logo is the beautiful lotus flower symbolizing rebirth, enlightenment, & overcoming obstacles. The lotus starts its journey deep in muddy water. It must persevere, growing up and out of the muddy bottom to bloom into a beautiful flower sitting on top of its challenges and obstacles. For many of us, moving from surviving into thriving follows a similar path. We must overcome our own muddy and dark challenges, until we bloom, radiating on top of the water.
I love to be outside! I love to hike, paddleboard & run. Recently I started learning to surf. SUP yoga combines two of my favorite activities---my love for the water, & the flow of yoga! My sweet dog & trusty companion, Ria, often can be found right alongside me, even on my paddleboard.
My passion is to help others experience the benefits of movement in a fun, uplifting & informative setting. I love to live life & believe that everyone can move from surviving into thriving!
